\[\lim_{x \to +\infty} \ln x = +\infty, \qquad \lim_{x \to +\infty} x^n = +\infty \ (n \geqslant 1), \qquad \lim_{x \to +\infty} \mathrm{e}^x = +\infty.\]

Or \(\lim\limits_{x \to +\infty} \frac{x}{2} = +\infty\).
Par comparaison, \(\lim\limits_{x \to +\infty} \frac{\mathrm{e}^x}{x} = +\infty\).

En \(-\infty\), on pose \(X = -x\) : \(x\,\mathrm{e}^x = -\frac{X}{\mathrm{e}^X}\) et \(\frac{X}{\mathrm{e}^X} \to 0\) quand \(X \to +\infty\), donc \(\lim\limits_{x \to -\infty} x\,\mathrm{e}^x = 0\).

Que vaut \(\lim\limits_{x \to +\infty} \frac{x^5}{\mathrm{e}^x}\) ?

  1. \(+\infty\), car \(x^5\) est une grande puissance
  2. \(1\)
  3. \(0\), car c’est l’inverse de \(\frac{\mathrm{e}^x}{x^5}\) qui tend vers \(+\infty\)
\(\frac{\mathrm{e}^x}{x^5} \to +\infty\), donc son inverse \(\frac{x^5}{\mathrm{e}^x}\) tend vers \(0\). L’exponentielle gagne contre toute puissance.

3. Logarithme et puissances

Démonstration de \(\lim\limits_{x \to +\infty} \frac{\ln x}{x} = 0\)

Cherche d’abord en posant \(X = \ln x\), puis compare.

Voir la solution

On pose \(X = \ln x\), donc \(x = \mathrm{e}^X\), et \(X \to +\infty\) quand \(x \to +\infty\).

\[\frac{\ln x}{x} = \frac{X}{\mathrm{e}^X} = \frac{1}{\frac{\mathrm{e}^X}{X}}\]

Comme \(\frac{\mathrm{e}^X}{X} \to +\infty\), son inverse tend vers \(0\) : \(\lim\limits_{x \to +\infty} \frac{\ln x}{x} = 0\).

En \(0^+\), on pose \(X = \frac{1}{x}\) : \(x \ln x = \frac{1}{X} \ln \frac{1}{X} = -\frac{\ln X}{X} \to 0\) quand \(X \to +\infty\).

Que vaut \(\lim\limits_{x \to +\infty} \frac{x^2}{\ln x}\) ?

  1. \(0\)
  2. \(+\infty\)
  3. \(1\)
\(\frac{\ln x}{x^2} \to 0^+\) (positif pour \(x > 1\)), donc son inverse \(\frac{x^2}{\ln x}\) tend vers \(+\infty\) : la puissance l’emporte sur le logarithme.

4. Méthode : lever une forme indéterminée

Exemple résolu 1

Calcule \(\lim\limits_{x \to +\infty} \left(\mathrm{e}^x - x^3\right)\).

\(\mathrm{e}^x - x^3 = x^3\left(\frac{\mathrm{e}^x}{x^3} - 1\right)\).
\(\frac{\mathrm{e}^x}{x^3} \to +\infty\), donc la parenthèse tend vers \(+\infty\), et \(x^3 \to +\infty\).
Par produit : \(\lim\limits_{x \to +\infty} \left(\mathrm{e}^x - x^3\right) = +\infty\).

Exemple résolu 2

Soit \(f(x) = x - 2\ln x\) sur \(]0\,;\,+\infty[\). Calcule la limite de \(f\) en \(+\infty\).

Voir la solution

Forme « \(+\infty - \infty\) ». On factorise par \(x\) :

\[f(x) = x\left(1 - 2\,\frac{\ln x}{x}\right)\]

Comme \(\frac{\ln x}{x} \to 0\), la parenthèse tend vers \(1\), et \(x \to +\infty\). Donc \(\lim\limits_{x \to +\infty} f(x) = +\infty\).

Exemple résolu 3

Calcule \(\lim\limits_{x \to +\infty} \left(x^2 - 3\right)\mathrm{e}^{-x}\).

Voir la solution \begin{align} \left(x^2 - 3\right)\mathrm{e}^{-x} &= \frac{x^2}{\mathrm{e}^x} - \frac{3}{\mathrm{e}^x} \end{align}

\(\frac{x^2}{\mathrm{e}^x} \to 0\) par croissance comparée et \(\frac{3}{\mathrm{e}^x} \to 0\). Donc la limite vaut \(0\).

Que vaut \(\lim\limits_{x \to 0^+} x^2 \ln x\) ?

  1. \(0\)
  2. \(-\infty\)
  3. \(+\infty\)

  • En \(+\infty\) : \(\frac{\mathrm{e}^x}{x^n} \to +\infty\) et \(\frac{\ln x}{x^n} \to 0\).
  • En \(-\infty\) : \(x^n \mathrm{e}^x \to 0\). En \(0^+\) : \(x^n \ln x \to 0\).
Tend vers +∞ : l’exponentielle l’emporte.
xⁿ eˣ en −∞
Tend vers 0.
